I love Instagram. I think it’s my favorite social network (with Pinterest being a close second). From a sharing and documentary perspective, Instagram is amazing because I can keep an in-the-moment photo diary that reflects the life I’m living and the food I’m making.
Since I prepare an average of two to three meals a day and I have a full-time job, most of the food we eat never makes it to this blog. I love going back and seeing the seasons reflected on our plates, on our walks, and in the lighting.
We all show the best parts of our lives on social media, but I try to be honest and authentic. Of course, I don’t lay out herbs on a board “just-so” when I’m cooking for only me, but I do find beauty in every day ingredients. I suppose that’s what inspires me to photograph them.
From a social perspective, I love seeing what my friends and colleagues are up to. Nothing makes me happier than logging in to Instagram and seeing a beautiful flower arrangement on a friend’s coffee table- as though I can peek in their living room when they’re half way around the world. I can watch peoples’ children grow, know what they dressed as for Halloween, and send love when they’re sick or hurting. And that puts the social in social media.
